Visa Information
Everything you need to know about getting a Nepal tourist visa before your trek, tour, or expedition.
Most foreign nationals require a tourist visa to enter Nepal. The easiest option for the vast majority of travelers is a Visa on Arrival, available at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) and major land border crossings. Indian citizens do not require a visa to enter Nepal.

Fees are payable in cash (USD or other major convertible currency) at the visa counter on arrival. Please carry exact change where possible. Fees are set by Nepal’s Department of Immigration and may change — always confirm current rates before travel.

01 Documents Required
- Passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date, with at least one blank page.
- Photo one recent passport-sized photograph (digital capture is also available at most entry points).
- Visa Fee in cash (USD or other major convertible currency).
- Arrival Card & Visa Form completed on arrival, or online in advance to save time at immigration.

02 Visa on Arrival Process
On landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, you’ll complete an arrival card and visa application form — these can also be filled out online before your flight to save time. Pay the visa fee at the designated counter or bank, then submit your documents at the immigration desk, where an officer will process your visa and stamp your passport. Visa services operate 24/7, but queues can be long during peak trekking season (October–November), so completing the online form in advance is recommended.

03 Nationalities Requiring Prior Approval
Most nationalities are eligible for Visa on Arrival. However, a small number of nationalities are not eligible for Visa on Arrival and must obtain a visa in advance from a Nepali embassy or consulate. Requirements change from time to time, so please confirm your eligibility with your nearest Nepali embassy or the Department of Immigration before you travel.

04 Visa Extension
If your trek runs longer than your current visa validity, you can extend your visa at the Department of Immigration offices in Kathmandu or Pokhara. We strongly recommend arranging any needed extension before you head out on trek, since some longer routes (Manaslu Circuit, Upper Mustang, and other remote areas) can run close to or beyond a standard 30-day visa.

05 Applying From Your Home Country
If you’d rather not use Visa on Arrival, you can apply for a tourist visa at a Nepali embassy or consulate before you travel. If issued from an embassy, the visa is generally valid for entry within six months of its issue date — check the specific validity noted on your visa when it’s issued.
